My husband got me our dog last year. He is an Australian Sheppard, approx 35lbs. Before him, I truly didn't get the hype about dogs. I liked them, but I didn't love them like I saw others loving their dogs. I was always a cat person and found dogs to be annoying and needy.

Now I don't even know who that version of myself was. I am literally obsessed with my dog. I love him so much. Everything he does I think is so cute and amazing. He's so good natured, smart, cuddly.... He's perfect. I would have never let a dog on my couch before. Now my dog has his own spot and I don't even care that he smells sometimes. I just adore him. I get it now lol I am officially a dog person thanks to my baby.

jeweltea1 13 hr. ago My husband did not want a dog...was only a cat person but I was guilted into taking in a Pomeranian a few years ago (woman threatened to take the dog to the shelter if I didn't take it) so I brought her home. My husband was not pleased but he got so attached that we have had dogs since then and he spoils them rotten.

thestr33tshavenoname 4 hr. ago Welcome to the dog side! Your world will expand exponentially with your boy. Last year I was having a casual meal with one of my adult children, chatting with the people at the table next to us, and the woman pulled out her phone when the talk turned to our dogs. We shared our photos and suddenly people from other tables were in on it and we were all admiring each other's canine family. It was fun and a memory I adore. May your dog bring you joy every single day!

Charming_Tower_188 12 hr. ago I was not a dog person as I was bit in the face by one when I was very young and then scared of them. My parents got a rescue when I went to uni, I begged! them not to because I was scared it would just bark and try and bite but omg did I ever fall in love with that guy. He was amazing and so special and gentle. I was totally converted. I have mine own now and I love him so much. So glad I found out how amazing dogs are.

Great Dimension_9866 9 hr. ago I was the same way until my dog came into my life with my family of origin, almost 35 years ago. He was so sweet-13 wonderful years-and I miss him everyday - my amazing furry brother

louderharderfaster 10 hr. ago Yep. Before Max, I kinda thought "you dog people" were a little nuts and I had all these ideas about how I would not let him sleep in the bed or lounge on the couch on the drive to pick him up. All that changed that very first night. He's crate trained just in case but my heart hurts when he chooses it over cuddles.

SmilingDayDreamer 11 hr. ago Are you me! I used to mortified of dogs.. would cross the street if I saw a dog on my side. Refused to get into the elevator when someone had a dog.. and now, my baby is my life...

Ithinkillgrowthis 12 hr. ago I used to have big, fights with my mom that would last days because all I wanted was a dog. She finally let the family have one because my dad was about to retire and he decided he would be showing the dog. So of course, THAT is perfectly reasonable. I trained the dog, taught them how to care for her, and she's now my mom's baby. I wasn't allowed to take her when I moved out. We live close to each other so I get her every day anyway while my mom is at work. I got a s

LuthienTinuviel93 - 12 hr. ago Awwww welcome to the club, OP! There is truly not a day that goes by where I don't thank God for these little 4 legged furry and derpy little creatures. Ever loving and ever loyal no matter what happens. They have taught me more about unconditional love than anything else. I'm so happy for you!!!

Razrgrrl 8 hr. ago The same thing happened to me! My wife is allergic to cats, so we adopted a small dog. Now our entire house and family revolves around a little fur face. This morning she woke me up by whining at me because I was sleeping instead of telling her good morning. I wasn't even annoyed, I was immediately like "my baby needs me!" I honestly don't know how they do it, but somehow they just convert even the cattiest of cat people!

Bearaboolovespuppies 13 hr. ago I did the opposite to my boyfriend. He fully thought he was a dog guy, till I brought a cat into the house. He now cries over shelter cats.

ActonofMAM. 13 hr. ago Working breeds can be scary smart. I joke that I would never get a Border Collie because it might hack my Amazon password and bankrupt me buying dog treats.

Contented 13 hr. ago . Dogs are wonderful - so utterly committed to the present, so silly and loving, so forgiving. I'm happy for your change of heart. They truly are wonderful creatures and I can't imagine a world without them. Also, Aussies are adorable little clowns. I can't help but laugh every time I spot one at the park.

MordinSolusSTG 13 hr. ago I was a cat person til I lived with dogs too.(mostly because I never had a fenced in yard growing up) Our Aussie is one of the best animals I've ever known. Congrats on finding yours and see you in r/wigglebutts !

Mysterious-Essay-373 12 hr. ago Similar experience for me. I now believe that dog person vs. cat person is just another false dichotomy - they are both awesome but bring different things to your life. I had a soul cat and now I have a soul dog. Life without either of them is unimaginable. My bond with my cat was a quiet, steady kind of love. My bond with my dog is a silly, sweet, crazy kind of love. I would never want to choose!

smokedupmirrors - 13 hr. ago I'm glad to hear this! I once met a woman who said she preferred to watch the movie before reading the book. This felt sacrilegious to me, a long time reader. But when I asked her why she said: "When I read the book after the movie, my world expands. When I watch the movie after the book, my world shrinks." You have now found a way to expand your world. Welcome to this little corner of loving dogs that life offers us. Enjoy it. Love your boy. Feel yourself grow from
